The Eastern Fence Lizard

Sceloporus undulatus
Found often on Providence Prairie:
The Eastern Fence Lizard is active during the day. He loves trees and is predominantly found either on a tree trunk or fence post. Follow him and he will take you in circles around the trunk until you are dizzy! We find them frequently running along the top rail of our zigzag fence. Grab him by the tail and he will leave it in your hands to make his hasty escape! They are amazing insect eaters with a voracious appetite for spiders, centipedes, snails and especially beetles.
