President's Day started off a bit chilly, but tolerable. Our plans were to head to St. Louis to go to the Science Center, but a "slight" diversion took place. As we approached St. Louis, the beautiful Jefferson National Expansion Memorial came into view- affectionately know as the Gateway Arch. We crossed the Mississippi and decided that the beautiful sunshiny day was beckoning us to stop and see the arch in all its splendor.
We parked on the riverfront and proceeded to mount the many steps up to the memorial. While we have been several times before, we decided this particular day would be a good day to return and share the aerial beauty of St. Louis from the perspective of the top of the Arch! Inside, while we waited on our tram ride to the top, we meandered through the museum. There was lots to see concerning the time era of the pioneer and the westward expansion of the United States. Our view from the top was clear and splendid. The shadow of the arch fell into the Mississippi as we took in the scenery from above.By the time we were ready to leave for the Science Center, it had closed- due to its winter hours. So, we made another unplanned stop at the zoo. It was a brisk afternoon for a walk in the zoo, but we pushed on through the maze of animals as we hurried to beat closing time. The Sea Lions were posing delightfully for us.Alas, our evening was filled with a visit to Chuck E. Cheese's. What better way to end a day of unexpected surprises?!
