March 2011 Summary

Whew!
It's been a while since we have posted any news from Providence Prairie.  Life on the farm has been busy in a good kind of way.  We will do a quick random summary of March, April, and May 2011.  Buckle you seat belt and get ready for a quick tour!

Making whole wheat hot dog and hamburger buns.  What fun!

The finished product.  Thanks Mom McD for the new pans.  They work wonderfully!

Lambs arrived on Providence Prairie . . .

Then it was time to spread manure . . .

On a sweeter note. . . special friends hosted a baby shower for Amanda to welcome Justus into the world!

Yes, everyone spoiled him greatly and he enjoyed it all.

What a very eventful and full year it has been for each of our children!  God has blessed the McDaniel Family richly!

Ryan and Amanda celebrated their first anniversary on March 28th.

We love you both and pray that God will bless you with many more years of serving Him together in love!

Want to take a look back? There are plenty of pictures here.

Congratulations Ryan and Amanda!

Robin, Robin!

Each year, as the weather begins to warm and we being to long for spring to arrive, we search diligently on Providence Prairie to spot our first Robin of the season.

And when we find him, we celebrate with something yummy in nature- like these beautiful Valentine themed cupcakes that Rachel created!
Hooray for spring!

Once In a Blue Moon Outhouse

One of the youngsters ran back inside from playing and announced that we had two moons in the outhouse!  I walked outside to see what the astronomical anecdote was about. . . and sure enough, we were seeing a double waning crescent due to a very unique angle of the sun and an open outhouse door.

This brought us to thinking. . . we had always heard that a blue moon was the second full moon that occurred in a single calendar month.  After some research, it appears that this is not correct, but simply an interpretation error that took place in 1946.  Technically, each season (groups of three months beginning with the vernal equinox) normally has three full moons.  When a fourth appears within the three consecutive months, such as between the fall equinox and the winter solstice as it did in November 2010, the third moon is considered to be the blue moon.  As such, we will have no blue moon again until August 31, 2012.

In the meantime, we can still call our outhouse phenomena a "blue moon" event as it has never been observed prior to this and may not happen again if the outhouse door is always properly closed!  Once in a blue moon. . .
